Explore volunteer opportunities or career positions below. ## Our Volunteers Volunteers are an integral part of the hospice team, filling roles that range from direct contact with patients to providing clerical and fundraising support for the organization. Hospices that participate with Medicare are required to utilize volunteers alongside their paid clinical and administrative staff. Hospice volunteers describe their work as gratifying, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally meaningful. ### How Hospice Volunteers Serve #### Support for Patients Visiting, reading, taking walks, writing letters, interpreting for those who do not speak English, bringing in music, and supervising therapeutic visits with pets. #### Respite and Support for Family Members Assist with shopping or light household maintenance, or allow family caregivers the opportunity to take care of necessary errands, exercise, or simply have some time alone. #### Bereavement Support Programs Work closely with the hospice's bereavement staff. Duties may include assisting a support group facilitator, serving refreshments, or helping with mailings to families. #### Fundraising and Administrative Work Help in the office with administrative duties, prepare mailings or thank-you letters, organize fundraising events and contact potential donors. #### Special Skills and Interests Maintain grounds and landscaping, provide notary services, barber and beautician services, or play music at hospice inpatient facilities. ## Become a Volunteer Fill out the form below and we'll contact you about volunteer opportunities. A: Not at all! In fact, many of our staff find it uplifting to work with patients and families who truly need their assistance. In an age when medicine seems increasingly depersonalized, hospice care is one of the last bastions of hands-on care. Graceland Hospice Care employees get daily reminders that they are in a field where they can make a difference. #### Q: I'm used to working in a hospital. Is it hard to adjust to the self-directed work style of a hospice home care team? A: Our staff often find that they easily adjust to and actually enjoy an independent schedule—one that is truly focused on the needs of patients and their families. Wouldn't you like to work in an environment in which one-to-one, hands-on care is part of a typical day? #### Q: I don't have any experience in Hospice Care. How will I learn the best ways to become an effective caregiver in this environment? A: Experience is a powerful teacher. GHC has more than 25 years of experience in training, educating and mentoring hospice clinical personnel. We have developed an extensive body of knowledge about providing quality end-of-life care. Our interactive training program relies on self-paced learning, peer support and mentoring.
